Good Fortune or Providence?

Today was a prep day and moving day all in one. The campground we were at couldn’t accommodate us any longer, which was probably a good thing since their pool was murky (we do have a three year old to keep busy) and the mosquitos were unbelievable in number. Denver has woefully few RV campsites near town (all booked,) so we’re back in Colorado Springs almost 80 miles away. This would turn out to be amazing good ‘fortune’ (beyond not having to bath in DEET.)
Even though we had planned (I use that term loosely) to head West this weekend, in popping in at a couple of organizations late last week, we saw God’s providence at work. We have TONS of interviews starting tomorrow and am really excited to feature some orgs that are attacking homelessness and addiction in Colorado with a vengeance. We’re stoked to stay another week here because we’re so impressed with the orgs (and their ppl.)
One ministry was recommended to us by our new friend Erin who has read Hayley’s book The Woman of Mystery, friended H on Facebook, and visited us at the RV in downtown Denver. In another providential moment, I googled the place, GPSed it, and rang the bell at the same time another woman walked up to the porch. A cheerful young woman staffer greeted us and said, “Hi come on in! Your name tags are right here on the table! What’s your name?!” I sort of stammered and said, “Uh, Michael. You weren’t expecting me.” The staffer retorted, “No problem, I’ll make you one!” It turns out they have a volunteer recruitment/orientation once a month and I walked right into one. So I stayed, heard about their org with 20 other ppl, toured the facility, and got to chat with the executive director, deputy director, development director, and the cheerful volunteer coordinator that was sure it was a “God thing.”
But on top of all that, Hayley got super-blessed in that some of her old friends from her Portland days, are flying into Denver as I type from the long term mission field in India. And as of tomorrow they will be in, you guessed it, Colo Springs. I’m guessing they haven’t seen each other for more than a decade. These kind of divine appointments are just what I was hoping for.
Three cheers for ‘God things’.
